Switchboard Upgrades Melbourne

The switchboard is the safety centre of the whole installation, and plenty of Melbourne homes are still running boards that were installed before modern appliances, air conditioning and safety switches existed. An upgrade replaces ageing protection with current-standard breakers and RCDs, and gives you the capacity to actually add things.

Pricing

What affects the cost

We do not publish fixed prices, because guessing at a number before seeing the job helps nobody. Here is what actually drives it.

  • Number of circuits and the size of the new board
  • Whether the mains and main switch also need upgrading
  • Single phase or three phase supply
  • Condition and accessibility of the existing meter box
  • Whether the existing board is asbestos-backed and needs specialist removal
  • Whether the work is prescribed and requires independent inspection

You get a quote first. We will talk through what the job involves and what it costs before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Questions

Switchboard Upgrades FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask us most about this service.

How long does a switchboard upgrade take?

It depends on the size of the board and what's behind it. We'll give you a realistic time estimate with your quote, along with how long the power will be off, so you can plan around it.

Will my power be off during the upgrade?

Yes, for part of the job. We'll tell you roughly how long before we start so you can plan for anything that matters — home office, fridge, medical equipment.

My switchboard is asbestos-backed. Can you still upgrade it?

Older boards sometimes have an asbestos backing panel, which must be handled by a licensed asbestos removalist rather than an electrician. We'll identify it, tell you plainly, and coordinate the sequence so the electrical work follows the removal.
